Just showing thoughts and ideas drawn out to start seeing what it could look like. I use drawing paper and colored pencils, and sometimes I'll make a model to scale. It's not high tech, but forces you to make decisions on what the project is going to look like. Graph paper keeps everything to scale. I am working on learning a 3d program to express ideas even more accurately.
